Right To Play USA's Central Park Classic provides an evening of skating under the stars

New York, New York (March 3rd, 2014) – On Tuesday evening, Synergy assisted Right to Play USA’s inaugural Central Park Classic which provided exciting opportunities for guests and their families to skate with some of the greatest Olympic and professional athletes on the ice at Trump Rink in Central Park.

 

Individuals joined the following athlete ambassadors for festive free skating and watched them demonstrate their sport up close and personal:

  • Bonnie Blair                 Five-time Olympic gold medalist, Speedskating
  • Joey Cheek                  2006 Olympic gold medalist, Speedskating,
  • Patrick Flatley              Retired NHL, NY Rangers and NY Islanders
  • Sarah Hughes              2002 Olympic gold medalist, Figure Skating
  • Erika Lawler                 2010 Olympic silver medalist, Ice Hockey
  • Patrick Meek                Olympian, Speedskating
  • Molly Schaus               Two-time Olympic silver medalist, Ice Hockey
  • Anne Schleper             2014 Olympic silver medalist, Ice Hockey

 

In addition, Curling demonstrations from members of USA Curling, the Ardsley Club and the Long Island Curling Club took place throughout the evening.

The family-friendly event benefitted, Right to Play, a global organization that uses sport and play programs to educate and empower children facing adversity. Through the use of games, activities and sports the organization promotes important life lessons and develops skills like cooperation, leadership and teamwork. Specially trained coaches engage the children teaching them to protect themselves from disease, encourage them to attend and stay in school and resolve conflict peacefully.

Founded in 2000 by social entrepreneur and four-time Olympic gold medalist Johann Olav Koss, Right To Play is supported by a network of over 300 global Olympic and professional Athlete Ambassadors that raise awareness and funds to support programs in 20 countries reaching over 1 Million children participating in weekly Right To Play programs.
